Women’s Heart Centre

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among women in Australia, the good news is, early detection saves lives. We recognise the importance of providing specialised cardiac care-for women, by women who understand the demands of a woman’s life.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among women in Australia, three times that of breast cancer. In Australia, 90% of women exhibit one risk factor for heart disease, and 50% exhibit two or more. The good news is that early diagnosis could save lives. Most heart diseases are preventable.

If you possess more than one risk factor, require cardiovascular screening, are seeking to prevent heart problems or have any other challenging condition that needs urgent treatment, the Women’s Heart Center is your destination in that case for better CVD outcomes. The demands of a woman at each stage of life is understood by women working to provide specialised cardiac care at Women’s Heart Centre.

We remain committed to research and treatment of heart disease in pregnancy. Our hypothesis suggests that pregnancy is a metabolic and cardiovascular stress test. The Women’s Heart Center supports women through any cardiac complications that may arise during their pregnancy like hypertension, arrhythmia, gestational diabetes, obesity and sleep disorder, to name a few. We specialise in creating consolidated multidisciplinary plan to help manage the long- term cardiac risks in high risk mothers postpartum. We have particular interest in surveillance, early diagnosis and treatment of cardiac issues in breast cancer survivors.

Dr Swati Mukherjee and her team of cardiologists provide specialist management of cardiac conditions seen in women. We facilitate access to other Cabrini and Alfred Healthcare Network specialists, if required.

Many non-communicable chronic diseases including CVD, share common risk factors that are largely preventable. Minimising exposure to these and timely management could help reduce the risk of developing CVD and experiencing CVD events, such as heart attack and stroke.
