Dr David ChiengCardiologist & ElectrophysiologistDr David Chieng is a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in Electrophysiology and Pacing managing adult cardiovascular conditions , including heart rhythm disturbances, cardiac arrhythmia, ablation and Cardiac device implantation. Dr Chieng completed his undergraduate degree in medicine and furthered his training through a rigorous four year fellowship in electrophysiology and pacing at the Alfred Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital. Through his extensive training and hands-on experience, he developed expertise in cardiac arrhythmia ablation and cardiac device implantation, fortifying his reputation in the field. His training has equipped him with a wealth of knowledge and practical skills for the treatment of complex cardiac conditions. In addition to his clinical prowess, Dr Chieng has made significant strides in cardiology research. His substantive work includes a recently completed PhD titled “Optimising Patient Outcomes in Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Catheter Ablation” for which he won the Chancellor's Prize for Excellence in PhD Thesis 2024 from the Melbourne Medical School: Department of Medicine (Royal Melbourne Hospital). This study was made possible through the combined support of the NHMRC/National Heart Foundation postgraduate research scholarships and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute Bright Sparks scholarship. Alongside his clinical work, Dr Chieng served as the principal investigator for several randomized clinical studies (CAPLA, HiLo-HEAT, STALL HFpEF) and has been recognised with ten young investigator awards, including the prestigious Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Young Investigator Award (2021) and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute Pail Korner Medal for outstanding PhD achievements (2021). Dr Chieng has achieved recognition on an international scale with the Eric N. Prystowsky Fellow Clinical Researcher Prize at the Heart Rhythm Society Conference (New Orleans 2023). Additional distinctions include the University of Melbourne Graham Brown Prize, the Paul Korner Medal and the Noel and Imelda Foster Prize for Cardiovascular Research for the best student publication in 2022.
